Some of the most romantic Lake Como weddings don’t begin at the altar — they begin quietly, in a sunlit room, with a laced-up gown and a view of the water through an open window. That’s exactly how the day unfolded for Molly & Sam, who chose a wedding in Bellagio for their destination celebration on the shores of Lake Como, Italy — one of the most storied corners of the Italian lakes, and one I’m lucky enough to photograph again and again.

A Bellagio Wedding Morning

The day started the way the best Lake Como weddings do: golden light through tall windows, quiet nerves, and a lot of laughter. Molly’s hair and makeup came together in a bright, historic room overlooking the water, while just down the hall, Sam slipped into a white dinner jacket and took a moment to himself before the day began.

Getting Ready with a View of Lake Como

There’s something about the light in Bellagio — soft, silvery, bounced off the lake — that makes getting-ready photos feel like their own love story. Molly’s bridesmaids fastened the final buttons on her gown as the lake shimmered outside, and in a stolen quiet moment, she looked out over the water before the whole day swept her up.

Bridal Portraits Before the Bellagio Wedding

Molly’s gown — a strapless silhouette finished with a dramatic bow at the back — was made for a Lake Como backdrop. Between hair touch-ups and last-minute details, we carved out a few minutes for portraits in the soft, directional light that this part of Italy is known for.

Golden Hour on the Terrace, Overlooking Lake Como

And then, the moment every Lake Como wedding is built around: Molly and Sam, wrapped up in each other on a stone terrace, the mountains and the water stretching out behind them. It’s quiet, it’s cinematic, and it’s the reason couples travel from all over the world to say “I do” in Bellagio.

Bellagio sits right where Lake Como’s three branches meet — pastel villas, cypress-lined terraces, and views that need almost no styling to look like a film set.
